Angiotensin peptides in the regulation of adrenal cortical function
نویسندگان
چکیده
The adrenal cortex plays a key role in the regulation of metabolism, salt and water homeostasis sex differentiation by synthesizing glucocorticoid, mineralocorticoid androgen hormones. Evidence exists that angiotensin II regulates adrenocortical function it has been contended peptides non-canonical branch renin system (RAS) might also modulate steroidogenesis adrenals. Thus, aim this review is to examine RAS, particularly their receptors, hormones with particular focus on aldosterone production.

Tremendous advances have taken place in our understanding of the function of the adrenal glands in health and in disease. In the last decade biochemists have isolated and synthesized numerous hormones secreted by the cortex, while clinical endocrinologists have applied this knowledge in elucidating the various syndromes associated with adrenal disease. Tests of adrenal function tend to be based...

function was assessed in 20 children receiving 2-5 to 10 mg. prednisolone daily, by measuring plasma cortisol levels before and after the administration of the synthetic polypeptide fl'-24, tetracosactrin (Synacthen). 18 of the children were asthmatics, one had nephrosis, and one had dermatomyositis. Adrenal function was classified as (a) abnormal response to tetracosactrin, where basal plasma ...

Aging, hypertension, and fetal-programmed cardiovascular disease are associated with a functional deficiency of angiotensin (Ang)-(1-7) in the brain dorsomedial medulla. The resulting unrestrained activity of Ang II in brainstem regions negatively impacts resting mean arterial pressure, sympathovagal balance, and baroreflex sensitivity for control of heart rate. The differential effects of Ang ...
متن کاملRegulation of angiotensin II in rat adrenal gland.
Levels of angiotensin II immunoreactivity in the rat adrenal gland are over one hundredfold higher than those in plasma. It is unclear, however, whether the major source of adrenal angiotensin II immunoreactivity is intracellular synthesis by a local renin-angiotensin system, uptake by angiotensin II receptors, or both. Our studies show that angiotensin II immunoreactivity in the adrenal gland ...
